“We’re all generalists
here, which is a real plus. You get to work in all
the departments and rotate between them. In the
larger places,
that’s not always the case.” “Because
of our size, we can be more innovative and the
administration tends to be more responsive to
the changing tide of things.”
“The hospital is very dedicated to quality
patient care. We’re always striving to improve
things here. We are also always striving to improve
the environment that we work in. So it’s
a wonderful place to work, it has the potential
for great things, and it’s really nice to
be a part of that.” |

“The nurse is very responsible
for the care of the patient completely, from baths
to meds, so you’re with the patient through
every step of their care here.
Assessment is very thorough here because you are
with the patient through everything, and the ratio
is 4:1 here usually on day shifts
and that makes it very good for the patient because
you are able
to spend more time with them.” “As
a new grad, I worked with a preceptor, 1 on 1,
until I was comfortable . . .
it was about an eight week process.”

“When it came time to graduate
and look for employment,
I liked how Brattleboro was a small community hospital
with good relationships between the doctors and
the nurses.” |

“It is a smaller hospital, you
know everyone, you know everyone by first name,
and people genuinely care about each other, and
it’s just nice,
it’s nice to come to work and see that.”
“The technology is so advanced, it’s
great.
I’d say we’re right on the cutting
edge of everything
that is going on everywhere else.”
“Because it’s such a small hospital,
I was able to train in two modalities,
whereas at another hospital I wouldn’t be
able to.
I consider us pretty lucky to be able to have
that.”
“BMH really does give back to the community.
One of the ways is through the BMH Health Fair,
which is every September.
It’s been very educational and informative,
I think,
and I believe we’ve had a really great turnout
for that.”

“We are able to focus our care
totally on the patient and their family.
It’s wonderful to give the time and attention
that those patients deserve.” “Patients
comment time and time again how they feel like
a true person
when they come here to BMH. Here they feel like
they get that personal attention.”
“We have great opportunities for new grads
here,
starting out at the Med/Surg level, getting their
basic skills down.
And then we have specialty areas where they can
go into training positions
and really develop their skills and help them
grow professionally.”
