BMH HEALTHIER LIVING WORKSHOPS
Brattleboro Memorial Hospital offers these free (to Vermont residents) 6-week workshops designed to help you enjoy a healthier, happier life. Based on the Stanford University School of Medicine model, these sessions can help you feel healthier even if you have a chronic condition, or live with someone who does. Useful tools, skills, and fun activities to address living with arthritis, diabetes, hypertension, chronic pain, emphysema, fibromyalgia, and any other long-term condition will be offered to help improve your life. Following are things you will learn:
BMH received a grant to serve as a regional provider of the Vermont Department of Health’s Healthier Living Workshops. The grant provides funding to be able to offer these sessions to Vermont residents for free. Full of fun activities and useful tools and skills, the group builds mutual support and confidence. Among skills participants learn are techniques to deal with frustration, fatigue, pain, and isolation; exercises to maintain and improve strength, flexibility, and endurance; how to use your mind as an ally; imagery to manage symptoms; tips to improve nutrition; how to evaluate new health treatments; how to talk with family, friends, and health professionals so they understand your needs; and goal-setting and problem-solving tips. Join up and learn that long-term conditions don’t have to stop you from living a fulfilling life.
Based on the Stanford University School of Medicine model, this national program has helped thousands of people living with long-term conditions to live healthier lives. People completing the Healthier Living Workshops series have reported increased energy, less stress, more self-confidence, and fewer doctor visits.
Workshop Leader Training is offered by BMH in tandem with the Vermont Department of Health. Leaders are prepared by Stanford Master Trainers. If interested, contact Jane Lunt at the above number, or by e-mail: jlunt@bmhvt.org.
