INVESTING IN BRATTLEBORO MEMORIAL HOSPITAL

Making a Charitable Bequest

Bequests are one of the easiest and most significant ways you can give to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital and help to provide quality health care to residents of the Brattleboro area. A will should be a final message reflecting your personal life values, a way of leaving a lasting legacy by which others may remember you. Bequests can be made by preparing a new will or adding a codicil to your present will with the advice of your attorney and other advisors.

Sample Language for Charitable Bequests
The following provides some suggested methods and wording for remembering Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in your will.

Specific Bequest: "I give $_______ [or a percentage of my estate] to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, a Vermont Nonprofit Corporation located in Brattleboro, Vermont,."

Or

"I give the following described property to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, a Vermont Nonprofit Corporation located in Brattleboro, Vermont : ___________________________."
Residuary Bequest: "I give all (or a percentage) of the remainder of my estate to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, a Vermont Nonprofit Corporation located in Brattleboro, Vermont."

Contingent Bequest: "In the event (primary beneficiary) does not survive me, I give said amount to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, a Vermont Nonprofit Corporation located in Brattleboro, Vermont."

Designation

Restricted Bequest: This bequest specifies how you want the funds to be used. For example, you may wish to designate your bequest for Cardiac Rehabilitation, Women’s Health, or Oncology. If this is your desire, please contact us to ensure your goals and desires can be accomplished.

Endowed Bequest: This bequest requires Brattleboro Memorial Hospital to hold the funds permanently and use only the investment income they generate. Your gift continues giving indefinitely.

As an example: "I give [amount, description of asset, percentage of estate, remainder, etc.] to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital, a Vermont Nonprofit Corporation located in Brattleboro, Vermont, for the purpose of establishing the ______________ Endowed Fund. Brattleboro Memorial Hospital will distribute only the earnings from the fund as specified by this request."
