Free Program on Joint Replacement at BMH
On Monday, February 15th, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital orthopedic surgeon William Vranos, MD, (pictured in photo) will present information about new joint replacement procedures. Called “What’s New In Joint Replacement?”, the free seminar will be held in the Brew Barry Conference Center on Monday evening at 7:00 PM.
Dr. Vranos will talk about new techniques and surgical approaches in total knee and hip joint replacement surgeries, in addition to advances in peri-operative care. Joint replacements are often indicated when arthritis renders a joint such as a knee or hip too painful to move readily. If you have achy joints or arthritis – which is the subject of a series in the Winter/Spring Wellness in Windham County calendar starting on March 26th – this is your chance to learn all about joint replacement from this progressive physician on the BMH medical staff. Dr. Vranos, along with fellow orthopedic surgeons Jon Thatcher, MD, and Elizabeth McLarney, MD, perform more than 100 joint replacements each year. Questions and discussion from the audience are encouraged.
Dr. Vranos received his doctor of medicine from Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta, Georgia, after graduating magna cum laude and as one of 13 Scholars of the College from Boston College in 1984. He served both his internship in general surgery and his orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
While serving in the United States Air Force from 1993-1996, Dr. Vranos received his board certification from the American Board of Orthopedic Surgery and developed his specialties in sports medicine and adult reconstruction. Dr. Vranos continued to pursue these interests, along with trauma and pediatric orthopedics, coming to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital from Franklin Medical Center several years ago.
BMH orthopedic surgeons, Drs. Vranos, Thatcher, and McLarney are all avid sports participants. Together they formed Orthopedics and Sports Medicine at Brattleboro Memorial Hospital for the diagnosis, treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation of athletic and occupational injuries. They serve as a resource for local school sports, along with athletic trainer Stephanie Pruitt, ATC.
Dr. Vranos continues to be active in sports in his free time, having completed at least two triathlons, so you can see he might know a few things about joints and their replacement. Come hear what he has to say. There is no cost for the program, but registration is requested. Call 802-257-8877 to register.
