Brattleboro Memorial Hospital officials announced the receipt of a $30,000 grant from Coverys for patient safety improvements to its Emergency Department.
Coverys is one of the nation’s leading providers of medical professional liability insurance and is represented locally by Cathy Coonan, CIC, at The Richards Group. The Boston-based company established the Coverys Community Healthcare Foundation, Inc. tosupport charitable endeavors that provide healthcare services, thus improving patient safety and care. .
“We’re so pleased that Coverys found our project worthy of support. One of our main goals with the new Emergency Department is increased patient safety and privacy, especially with respect to decreasing children’s exposure to upsetting and traumatic situations. That fit perfectly with the Foundation’s mission,” says Ellen Smith, Executive Director of Development and Community Relations at BMH. “Our new Emergency Department has a waiting area specifically for children and families and the triage design separates more acute medical cases from minor emergencies.”
BMH has raised more than $3.3 million from area businesses and individuals since publicly launching “The Doorway to Exceptional Care” campaign. When the project is completed, the hospital will be able to serve the 14,000 patients who access care in the Emergency Department each year with greater speed, privacy and efficiency.
