March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month

It is an opportunity to educate the community about the dangers, prevention and treatment of colon cancer. Because it’s about a part of the body that people often feel embarrassed to talk about, there is a general lack of awareness about the disease. It has also, at times, kept colon cancer patients unaware of treatment options and prevented early detection and treatment. Colon cancer is often beatable when caught early, yet it is still the second leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. Being informed and knowing what preventative measures you can take is the first step.

Over the next couple of weeks, Brattleboro Memorial Hospital will have a number of columns on the Health page in the Reformer, postings on iBrattleboro and regular postings on the BMH Facebook page specific to colorectal cancer. If you have questions specific to colon health and/or colon cancer, email them to us or post them on our Facebook page.
