Mary Urquhart, RN BMH Nursing Leadership Changes

Barry Beeman, President and CEO of Brattleboro Memorial Hospital has appointed Mary Urquhart, RN, Vice President of Patient Care Services. Urquhart assumed the position upon the recent retirement of Katherine Anderson, RN.

Urquhart was promoted to Assistant Vice President last year, and started in her new role on February 1. With her new title comes direct supervision of the Emergency Department and its physicians, the Department of Community Health & Hospital Education, Medical-Surgical, Special Care, the Birthing Center, and the Perioperative, CardioRespiratory, and Anesthesia Departments. Urquhart was the former Director of Nursing at Grace Cottage Hospital for eight years prior to coming to Brattleboro Memorial in 2002. Since coming to BMH, she has served as Director of Woman’s and Surgical Services and as Interim Vice President of Patient Care Service during the hospital’s CEO transition in 2005, when former VP of Patient Care Services Katherine Anderson, RN, assumed the role of interim CEO.

Anderson came to Brattleboro Memorial Hospital in 1997, when a hospital in Connecticut at which she held a similar position merged with another. During her eleven years at BMH, she provided leadership and direction to the Patient Care Services division as a compassionate and dedicated member of the administration. Anderson helped the hospital grow and develop into one of Vermont’s best community hospitals.

Anderson’s future plans include teaching a master’s level course in healthcare administration at the Marlboro Graduate Center. She plans to stay in the area, along with her parents and younger daughter, Jennifer.
