WHAT IS A CARDIAC EXERCISE TEST?
A Cardiac exercise stress test allows your doctor
to learn how well your heart functions when it is made
to work harder. This test can help detect heart problems
that may not be apparent at rest. During the test, blood
pressure and an EKG will be monitored and recorded.
A technician will explain how to safely use the treadmill
or stationary bicycle. Possible common and rare side
effects will also be discussed and any questions will
be answered before the test begins. The exercise portion
of the test usually lasts for 5 to 15 minutes. However,
you should allow approximately one hour for the entire
test that includes "prepping", exercise, and recovery.
The data collected during the test will be interpreted
and reported to your physician. ·
