Pre-Operative Assessment

When patients are scheduled for surgery, a preoperative assessment will be completed by either telephone or hospital visit to help ensure their well-being in preparation for anesthesia and surgery. Located in the Richards Building, all preoperative services are centralized for a patient’s convenience. In addition to an evaluation by a nurse, these services include lab blood drawing, cardiac services such as EKGs and stress testing, and X-ray. Patients check in at Patient Registration on the Ground Floor of Richards Building.

Preoperative Assessment Clinical Coordinator Christine Gooley, APRN, BC, coordinates the tests needed for pre-surgery patients. She is also responsible for anesthesia evaluations, and serves as liaison between the hospital’s perioperative services – functions relating to the OR in general – and the surgeons’ offices.
