Aquatic Therapy

Water is a natural place for healing, rehabilitation, and exercise, so the new BMH offering of pool therapy is a natural! Now available through the BMH Rehab and Sports Medicine Services, two highly trained therapists are providing individual, hands-on aquatic therapy in cooperation with the Colonial Motel pool on Putney Road. Carol Bailey, PT, and Gail Roberts, PTA, took intensive, advanced training to learn how to safely apply aquatic therapy principles and techniques for patients to help improve balance, improve trunk stability, decrease pain, increase mobility, and improve function on land. These two therapists each have more than 20 years of experience that they will bring to the BMH Aquatic Therapy Program.

You must have a doctor’s referral for the aquatic therapy program, and some insurances require prior authorization for the therapy. To ensure patient safety, the BMH Rehab Department has set criteria that must be met before starting the aquatic program. All patients will be evaluated on land at the BMH PT Rehab Department in the Richards Building on the BMH campus prior to starting pool therapy to ensure their appropriateness for the program. If you feel this program may benefit you during a rehab session, please speak with your doctor or therapist.

Appointments for physical and occupational therapy services are available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.  For information or an appointment, call 802-257-8255.
