BMH is proud to recognize and support National Breastfeeding Awareness Month. That’s because breastfeeding is one of the important keys to a healthy start in life for all infants and young children. It helps protect newborns from malnutrition, infection, disease (for example, asthma, ear infections, diabetes, and breathing problems) and death. It also helps create a strong, lifelong bond between mother and child. According to the U.S. Breastfeeding Committee “…all major medical authorities recommend that mothers breastfeed exclusively for six months and continue breastfeeding for at least the first year of a child’s life.”

While the debate about whether or not to breastfeed has been going on for many years, the health benefits cannot be denied. Not only does it set the stage for a lifetime of better health, it’s also convenient and inexpensive. This is not to say that breastfeeding is always easy. It takes time, which can be a challenge for working moms. It can also take practice as many moms need time to get comfortable with the process and settle into a breastfeeding routine.

The providers at Four Seasons OBGYN & Midwifery are an excellent source of information and support for moms who are new to breastfeeding.
