Give to BMH Birthing Center

Birthing Center Stabilization

In June 2026, facing a projected deficit of more than $5 million from the OB/GYN service line, BMH made the difficult decision to close the Birthing Center unless “a sustainable path forward” could be developed.

This summer, our community helped find one. A coalition of local leaders, community members, and legislators met regularly with the hospital, demonstrating a deep commitment to our Birthing Center. In response, a team of hospital executives, financial analysts, and OB/GYN providers developed a more sustainable model of obstetric care with a more favorable budget. On September 10 the BMH Board of Directors voted unanimously to keep our Birthing Center open.

Our Plan:

  • Grow birth volume through regional partnerships
  • Expand philanthropy
  • Advocate for fair birth reimbursement from Medicaid and private health insurers

Make this commitment stick.

Our FY2027 plan includes a commitment to raise at least $500,000 by the end of 2026. This is our first milestone, not our last. Keeping birth close to home in Southeastern Vermont will take sustained community support for years to come. Help us reach this goal and build the foundation for what comes next.
