Breast Cancer Awareness Month is an international health campaign held each October to promote screening and prevention of the disease.

For 2025, the theme is Every Journey is Unique, Every Journey Matters.

Widely known for its pink color theme Breast Cancer Awareness Month features a number of campaigns and programs offered by groups ranging from healthcare organizations to breast cancer advocacy groups, local community organizations, major retailers, and professional sports teams.

The ultimate goal is to educate people about breast cancer risk factors, support people diagnosed with breast cancer (including those with metastatic breast cancer), encourage women to go for regular breast cancer screening starting at age 40 (or earlier in some cases) and encourage fundraising for breast cancer research.

At the Breast Care Program at BMH, we work to support these goals throughout the year while providing people in Brattleboro and surrounding communities with the tools and resources to educate, prevent, detect, and treat a disease that affects more than 2 million women worldwide.
